It modulates oxidative stress by promoting the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS), influencing the polarization of microglia and neutrophils and regulating inflammation-related signaling pathways. Myeloperoxidase, human white blood cells also exhibits antibacterial activity.
