Bioactivity
The CotH3 peptide is a functional peptide unique to mucormyetes that can bind to the host GRP78 receptor, facilitating entry into endothelial cells. Monoclonal antibodies produced against the CotH3 peptide can protect immunocompromised mice from mucormycosis caused by Rhizopus delemar (R. delemar) and other mucormyetes. Additionally, the CotH3 peptide works synergistically with antifungal drugs to protect diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) mice from R. delemar infections.
