Cholesterol nervonate is a specific cholesterol ester molecular species composed of cholesterol esterified to the very long-chain monounsaturated fatty acid nervonic acid, which has been identified as a constituent of the complex lipid mixture in human meibum, the secretory product of the meibomian glands.Cholesterol nervonate has been experimentally used in the generation of synthetic liposomes for membrane biophysics and drug delivery research.
