Heptanoyl-coenzyme A (Heptanoyl-CoA) tetrasodium is a derivative of coenzyme A. It acts as an inhibitor of butyryl-CoA acetate-CoA transferase (BUT), thus hindering the synthesis of butyrate. Additionally, Heptanoyl-coenzyme A tetrasodium can block the improvement of motor function induced by the isoquinoline alkaloid berberine.
