Recombinant human Thrombopoietin protein
Thrombopoietin, also known as megakaryocyte growth and development factor (MGDF), is a member of EPO/TPO family. It is produced in the liver by both parenchymal cells and sinusoidal endothelial cells, as well as in the kidney by proximal convoluted tubule cells. It acts as a key regulator of megakaryocytopoiesis and thrombopoiesis that leads to platelet production. Also, this protein is the ligand for MLP/C_MPL, the product of myeloproliferative leukemia virus oncogene. Thrombopoietin, like EPO, plays a role in brain development. It promotes apoptosis of newly generated neurons, an effect counteracted by EPO and neurotrophins. Recombinant human Thrombopoietin fused to His-tag at C-terminus, was expressed in HEK293 cell and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.
