Recombinant rat Lipocalin-2/NGAL protein
Lcn2 also known as Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin. It belongs to the calycin superfamily and Lipocalin family. It is essential component of the antimicrobial innate immune system, is present in neutrophils and multiple other tissues. It prevents iron acquisition by microorganisms by sequestering iron-loaded bacterial siderophores. In contrast to its pro-apoptotic activity, Lcn2 has also been reported to be a survival factor. Lcn2 protected thyroid carcinoma cells from apoptosis induced by serum deprivation and silencing of Lcn2 reduced thyroid tumor growth. Recombinant rat Lcn2, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E. coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.
