Mediates passage of a wide variety of non-charged solutes including carbamides, polyols, purines, and pyrimidines in a phloretin- and mercury-sensitive manner, whereas amino acids, cyclic sugars, Na (+), K (+), Cl (-), and deprotonated monocarboxylates are excluded. Also permeable to urea and glycerol.
