Background

Cytokeratin 8 (KRT8) is a type II intermediate filament protein of ~52 kDa that pairs with cytokeratin 18 to form heteropolymers in simple epithelial cells. Together, these keratins provide structural stability to epithelial tissues and contribute to cellular resilience under mechanical and apoptotic stress. Beyond their cytoskeletal role, KRT8 and KRT18 participate in intracellular signaling, apoptosis regulation, and stress response pathways. Abnormal expression or post-translational modification of KRT8 has been linked to a variety of human diseases, including chronic liver disease, inflammatory disorders, and multiple carcinomas. Because of its restricted expression in simple epithelia and frequent upregulation in tumors, KRT8 serves as both a diagnostic marker and a functional mediator of epithelial cell biology and disease progression.

Assay Protocol

This recombinant antibody is a chimeric antibody created by replacing the mouse heavy and light constant regions of clone E8-C6-B4 with chicken IgY heavy and light constant regions. As such this antibody retains the same binding performance as the original clone E8-C6-B4 but can be detected using standard anti-chicken secondary antibodies allowing flexibility for multiplexing applications. This antibody is expressed recombinantly in mammalian cells and then affinity purified from the cell culture media.
