Target
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a member of the herpesvirus group (Betasubfamily, DNA virus of 150-200 nm) . These viruses share a characteristic ability to remain dormant within the body over a long period. Initial CMV infection, which may have few symptoms, is always followed by a prolonged, inapparent infection during which the virus resides in cells without causing detectable damage or clinical illness. Severe impairmant of the body´s immune system by medication or disease consistently reactivates the virus from the latent or dormant state._x005F CMV is found universally throughout all geographic locations and socioeconomic groups, and infects between 50% and 85% of adults. CMV infection is more widespread in developing countries and in areas of lower socioeconomic conditions. _x005F For the vast majority of people, CMV infection is not a serious problem, but it is to certain high-risk groups:_x005F the unborn baby during pregnancy_x005F people who work with children_x005F immunocompromised persons, such as organ transplant recipients and persons infected with HIV_x005F

Assay Principle
Aviva Systems Biology Cytomegalovirus (CMV) IgG ELISA Kit (Human) (OKNX00121) is based on standard reverse capture sandwich enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay technology. Cytomegalovirus antigen has been pre-coated and blocked in a 96-wellplate (12 x 8 Well Strips) . Standards or test samples are added to the wells, incubated and washed. An HRP conjugated detector antibody specific for Human IgG is added, incubated and followed by washing. An enzymatic reaction is produced through the addition of substrate which is catalyzed by HRP generating a blue color product that changes to yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The density of yellow coloration is read by absorbance at 450 nm and is qualitatively proportional to the amount of sample anti-Cytomegalovirus IgG captured the in well.
