Bactenecin

Bactenecin is a twelve residue antimicrobial peptide that is recognized by its disulfide linked cyclical structure. It lyses gram-negative bacteria by increasing permeability through binding lipopolysaccharides (LPS) . The bactenecin/LPS conjugate forms a β-hairpin structures which integrate with the bacterial membrane, forming pores. They are tested against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria using panels, discs, and MIC strips by medical microbiologists.
