Lincomycin HCl, USP Grade
Lincomycin HCl is a lincosamide antibiotic targeting gram positive and anaerobic bacteria as well as protozoans. It is commonly used to combatStaphylococcusandStreptococcusbacteria. Lincomycin HCl is freely soluble in aqueous solution.Lincosamide antibiotics exhibit a mechanism similar to macrolide antibiotics. They work by binding the 50s ribosomal subunit and preventing peptide bond formation and translocation, essentially inhibiting protein synthesis. Resistance to lincomycin is conferred through mutations in the 50s ribosome.Antibiotics are often used in clinical in vitro tests known as antimicrobial susceptibility tests or ASTs to determine their efficacy against certain bacterial species. They are tested against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria using panels, discs, and MIC strips by medical microbiologists. ASTs decrease the risk of using an antibiotic against bacteria exhibiting resistance to it, and the results are used in clinical settings to determine which antibiotic (s) to prescribe for various infections.Product SpecificationsLincomycin HCl, USP GradeLincomycin Hydrochloride MonohydrateFormula: C18H34N2O6S ∙ HCl ∙ H2OMW: 461.01 g/mol
