Background

The spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 variant KP.3, a sublineage of Omicron JN.1, facilitates viral entry by binding the human ACE2 receptor through its receptor-binding domain. KP.3 carries characteristic mutations, including changes in the N-terminal and receptor-binding domains, that may enhance transmissibility and immune evasion. These alterations are under close surveillance for their potential impact on vaccine effectiveness, therapeutic antibody binding, and the ongoing evolution of SARS-CoV-2 in the global population.
