Background

Oocytes have diverse functions in ovarian folliculogenesis, fertilization, and embryogenesis. ZAR1 is an oocyte-specific gene that appears to function at the oocyte-to-gamete transition (Wu et al., 2003 [PubMed 12539046]) .
