Notes

The Prothrombin Time (PT) or Quick Time allows the screening of coagulation abnormalities related to factor VII (extrinsic coagulation pathway) and factors II, V, X and fibrinogen (common end of coagulation pathway) . High PT values are observed in a variety of acquired conditions such as vitamin K deficiency, hepatopathy, as well as in hereditary conditions related to the coagulation system. It’s also used for the monitoring of oral anticoagulant therapy (OAT) and pre-surgical screening.
