Oncostatin M/OSM Protein, Mouse, Recombinant
Product Specifications
Background
Oncostatin M (OSM) is a glycoprotein belonging to the interleukin-6 family of cytokines that has functions mainly in cell growth. Oncostatin M (OSM) is considered as a pleiotropic cytokine that signals through cell surface receptors typeIand typeII both of which share the similarity of containing protein gp130 and takes part in many bio metabolism processes including liver development, hematopoiesis, inflammation, bone formation, and destruction and possibly CNS development. Oncostatin M (OSM) was previously identified by its ability to inhibit the growth of cells from melanoma and other solid tumors. It also has been reported that OSM, like LIF, IL-6, and G-CSF, can inhibit the proliferation of murine M1 myeloid leukemic cells and can induce their differentiation into macrophage-like cells. The human form of OSM is insensitive between pH2 and 11 and resistant to heating for one hour at 56 degrees but is not stable at 90 degrees. The human OSM is produced as a precursor containing 252 amino acids, whose first 25 amino acids function as a secretory signal peptide and which on removal yields the soluble 227 amino acid pro-OSM. Removal of the C-terminal most 31 amino acids produces the fully active 196 residue form.

Purity
> 95 % as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Activity
Measured in a cell proliferation assay using NIH3T3 cells. The EDfor this effect is typically 8-32 ng/mL.
Form
Lyophilized
Buffer
Lyophilized from sterile PBS, pH 7.4. Please contact us for any concerns or special requirements. Normally 5 % - 8 % trehalose, mannitol and 0.01% Tween 80 are added as protectants before lyophilization. Please refer to the specific buffer information in the hard copy of CoA.
Function
Cell Therapy proteins, Biological Target proteins, Cytokine Proteins, Growth Factor proteins, Interleukin proteins
Molecular Weight
The recombinant mouse OSM consists of 184 amino acids and predicts a molecular mass of 20.7 KDa. It migrates as an approximately 23 KDa band in SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions.
Storage Conditions
In general, recombinant proteins are provided as lyophilized powder which are shipped at ambient temperature. Bulk packages of recombinant proteins are provided as frozen liquid. They are shipped out with blue ice unless customers require otherwise. Stable for 1 year at -20°C or below from date of shipment. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and opening the cap. For long-term storage, aliquot and store at -20°C or below. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
