Succinylsulfathiazole
Succinylsulfathiazole (Succinylsulphathiazole) is a long-acting sulfonamide antibiotic. Succinylsulfathiazole works by inhibiting bacterial folate synthesis through competitive inhibition with P-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) . Succinylsulfathiazole is a gut antiseptic to lower the bacterial load and prevent infections after gut surgeries. Succinylsulfathiazole can produce large shifts in the composition of the gut flora and the ability to synthetize folate[1][2].
