Protein L1/VACWR088 is a crucial part of the entry fusion complex (EFC) comprising 11 proteins. It facilitates the entry of the virion core into the host cytoplasm through a two-step process involving lipid mixing and pore formation. All EFC proteins, except OPG095/L1 and OPG053/F9, contribute to the assembly or stability of the complex.
