Cases of legionellosis frequently appear as outbreaks in community, tourist and nosocomial settings, so this disease is considered apublic health problemand its prevention and control is highly legislated. The recommended method is based on the concentration of the sample and the subsequent treatments carried out to allow the Legionella genus to survive and to reduce or eliminate the accompanying microbiotics. Subsequently, culture media are used to detect and obtain a count of the bacteria of the genus Legionella present in the sample analysed. Finally, it is necessary to confirm the presence of Legionella pneumophila, especially serogroup 1, due to the clinical importance of this species. Being an immunochromatographic test, it allows a more objective reading through the appearance of a red band. The genus part of our cassette, unlike the latex tests on the market, is capable of detecting all Legionella species and can function as a screening or confirmation test for Legionella non pneumophila, depending on the method used.
