Chemi-Verse™ CDK16/Cyclin Y Kinase Assay Kit

CDK16 (cyclin dependent kinase 16) is a member of the cyclin-dependent protein kinase family involved in cell cycle, transcription and splicing.  CDK associates with cyclins, which induce a conformational change that results in a dramatic increase of kinase activity. Cyclin levels vary during the cell cycle, allowing cyclins to regulate CDK activity in the cell. Dissociation of the complex returns CDK to its basal activity, and CDK is degraded by ubiquitin mediated proteolysis. CDK16 plays a role in signaling pathways in differentiated cells, and transport of secretory cargo from the endoplasmic reticulum and exocytosis. It has been categorized as an oncoprotein and is involved in several cancer types (such as breast cancer, where it can be used as a prognosis marker) . The understanding of the mechanisms involved in cell cycle regulation, and its control via the use of small molecule inhibitors will open new therapeutic avenues for the treatment of cancer.
