Background

THAP (Thanatos-associated protein) domain-containing, apoptosis-associated protein 1) domain-containing protein 1, Nuclear Proapoptotic Factor or Dystonia 6, Torsion (Autosomal Dominant) is encoded by the gene THAP1. THAP1 is a DNA-binding transcription regulator involved in endothelial cell proliferation, G1/S cell-cycle progression and is thought to play a role in apoptosis. Thap1 is expressed in many tissues including heart, skeletal muscle, kidney, liver, brain and placenta. Diseases associated with this gene include Dystonia.
