1-Methylpyrene

1-Methylpyrene is a widespread environmental carcinogen studied in rodent models. Its mutagenicity requires metabolic activation by cytochrome P450 and sulfotransferase enzymes, ultimately causing chromosomal loss and mitotic errors. This compound is used in vitro and in vivo to investigate metabolic activation pathways and genotoxic mechanisms of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
