X-GAL
X-GAL (BCIG) is a chromogenic substrate for β-galactosidase, yielding an insoluble blue precipitate upon enzymatic cleavage. It is extensively used in molecular biology for both in vitro assays and in vivo staining applications, such as lacZ reporter gene detection in histology and microbiology.
