Phospholipase A2, Porcine
Phospholipase A2, Porcine (EC 3.1.1.4) specifically targets and hydrolyzes the β-ester bond in zwitterionic glycerophospholipids. Its primary substrates are phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, and their plasmalogen analogs. It can also hydrolyze phosphatidylinositol and phosphatidylserine. This enzyme effectively acts on phospholipids within intact cell membranes by specifically recognizing the sn-2 acyl bond, catalyzing its hydrolysis to release arachidonic acid and lyso-phospholipids.
