Phenicin
Phenicin (Phoenicine) is a microbial metabolite and an irreversible inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR) . It can be isolated from cultures of Penicillium phoeniceum and Penicillium rubrum. Phenicin specifically inhibits the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate catalyzed by HMGCR, thereby effectively suppressing cholesterol synthesis.
