C-reactive protein is an acute phase protein, synthesized in the liver. Its molecular weight is about 140,000. It occurs in serum of healthy men in low concentrations, <1.2 μg/ml. In cases of bacterial infection, surgical trauma and Hodgkins disease, he concentration is highly increased. It may reach values of 0.5 mg/ml. Freund’s complete adjuvant is used in the first step of the immunization procedure.
