The MUP is a sex related complex with a pre-albumin mobility in gel electrophoresis. Concentrations in male mice are between 50 to 150 μg/ml, in female mice 10 to 20 μg/ml. The complex is also detectable in serum, however concentrations are about 200 to 400 times lower. Variations in the composition of the complex are genetically determined. Purified mouse major urinary proteins are isolated from pooled normal urine. Freund’s complete adjuvant is used in the first step of the immunization procedure.
