Elaidic acid sodium is the primary trans fat found in hydrogenated vegetable oils and can be used as a solvent for pharmaceuticals. In human platelets incubated with arachidonic acid, sodium elaidic acid inhibits the formation of HHT and HETE while inducing the synthesis of prostaglandins and thromboxanes.
