UP163 is a small molecule activator of valosin-containing protein (VCP), enhancing its ATPase activity with an EC50 of 9.0 μM. It has been shown in cellular models to reduce proteasome inhibitor-induced TDP-43 aggregation, making it a useful research tool for studying proteinopathies and VCP-related pathways in vitro.
