Stachyose is an oligosaccharide that suppresses the growth of vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) in vitro. It modulates gut microbiota composition and has demonstrated protective effects in murine models of acute colitis, such as those induced by dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) .
