UT-59 is a specific inhibitor that targets the cholesterol-sensing membrane protein Scap (SREBP cleavage-activating protein) . It functions by binding to Scap's cholesterol-binding site, which prevents Scap from interacting with SREBPs (sterol regulatory element-binding proteins) . This inhibition blocks the activation of SREBPs, which are key transcription factors involved in lipid and cholesterol biosynthesis.
