3-Formylsalicylic acid is a potent non-competitive inhibitor of estrone sulfatase (Ki=120 nM), blocking the conversion of estrone sulfate to estrone. This compound is also a key synthetic intermediate for creating Schiff base derivatives, useful in biochemical research targeting steroid-dependent pathways in vitro.
