This (±) 16-HETE is a racemic mixture of a minor CYP450-derived arachidonic acid metabolite involved in renal electrolyte regulation. The biological effects are stereospecific: the R-enantiomer acts as a renal vasodilator, while the S-enantiomer potently inhibits proximal tubule Na+, K+-ATPase activity in vitro, making it valuable for studying renal physiology and hypertension pathways.
