Diethyl pyrocarbonate (DEPC) is an irreversible RNase inhibitor that functions by carboxyethylating histidine residues, inactivating enzymes. It is widely used in molecular biology for in vitro RNA handling and has been applied in vivo to study chemosensitivity, such as in rabbit models.
