Thioacetamide-S-oxide is the active metabolite of thioacetamide and acts as an inhibitor of δ-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) synthetase. This small molecule is used in research to study heme biosynthesis and chemical-induced porphyria in both in vitro and in vivo experimental models.
