VRT-534 is a selective connexin 26 (Cx26) modulator, binding with higher potency to the K188N mutant (EC50 5 μM) than to wild-type (EC50 19 μM) . It is a valuable research tool for investigating connexin function in models of hearing loss, applicable in both in vitro and in vivo studies.
