Ferric maltol
Ferric maltol is a ferric, non-salt-based oral iron formulation demonstrating improved tolerance in patients with previous intolerance to other iron formulations. (In Vitro) :Ferric maltol increases transferrin saturation and levels of serum ferritin, serum iron, blood hemoglobin, and reticulocyte hemoglobin. (In Vivo) :Iron that is not absorbed from Ferric maltol can remain in its chelated form at least throughout the small intestine, minimizing the risk of intestinal mucosal damage from free iron and potentially reducing local toxicity.
