Ethylhydrocupreine (Optochin) is a quinine-derived small molecule with potent antistreptococcal and antimalarial activity, demonstrating in vitro efficacy against S. pneumoniae and Plasmodium falciparum. It also serves as a research tool as an agonist for avian bitter taste receptors (ggTas2r1, ggTas2r2, ggTas2r7) in pharmacological studies.
