Peraclopone

Peraclopone is a hypolipidemic research compound that potently inhibits 7-dehydrocholesterol reductase, the final enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis. Its application in rodent studies induces a marked replacement of membrane cholesterol with 7-dehydrocholesterol, reducing plasma sterols and altering membrane fluidity in tissues like the intestinal microvillus. This model is used to investigate sterol metabolism, vitamin D synthesis, and membrane biophysics.
