Hexamethonium chloride is a ganglionic blocker that selectively antagonizes nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. It is primarily used in autonomic pharmacology research to study sympathetic and parasympathetic pathways in vivo, as it penetrates the central nervous system poorly at standard doses.
