RK-52 is a potent and selective synthetic inhibitor of the trypanosomal cysteine protease rhodesain, exhibiting a rapid second-order rate constant of 6.7 x 107 M−1 min−1 and sub-nanomolar affinity (Ki = 38 pM) . This inhibitor is a valuable chemical tool for studying Trypanosoma brucei biology and for anti-parasitic drug discovery research in both in vitro and in vivo experimental models.
