Cidofovir sodium is the salt form of a nucleoside analog antiviral that inhibits viral DNA polymerase. It is primarily used in research to study cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections, with applications in both in vitro antiviral assays and in vivo models of CMV pathogenesis, such as retinitis.
