Azacosterol is a diaza analog of cholesterol that potently inhibits 24-dehydrocholesterol reductase (24-DHCR), blocking the conversion of desmosterol to cholesterol. This hypocholesteremic agent is used in research to study cholesterol biosynthesis and has been applied in avian studies investigating the link between sterol metabolism and antifertility effects.
