Dicoumarol is a natural hydroxycoumarin anticoagulant that acts as a competitive inhibitor of vitamin K epoxide reductase, disrupting vitamin K recycling. This inhibition depletes active vitamin K, preventing the synthesis of functional prothrombin and other clotting factors.
