Filipin III, derived from strain KPE18H, is a natural antifungal agent. It is widely employed as a fluorescent cholesterol probe in membrane biology, exhibiting excitation/emission maxima at ~360 nm and ~480 nm upon binding. This property facilitates cholesterol localization studies in both in vitro and in vivo experimental systems.
