Surfen dihydrochloride is a heparan sulfate antagonist that neutralizes the anticoagulant effects of heparin and LMWH. It has demonstrated research utility in studying viral entry mechanisms, such as semen-mediated HIV infection, and in inhibiting specific bacterial toxins and coagulation factors in vitro.
