Cilastatin is a specific inhibitor of the enzymes renal dehydropeptidase-I and leukotriene D4 dipeptidase. It is widely used in research to study renal metabolism, leukotriene-mediated inflammatory pathways, and to protect certain antibiotics from degradation in both in vitro and in vivo experimental models.
