5 (S),6 (S) -DiHETE is a diastereomeric 5,6-dihydroxy eicosatetraenoic acid formed from the non-enzymatic hydrolysis of leukotriene A4 (LTA4) . Unlike other leukotriene pathway metabolites, it lacks significant leukotriene-like biological activity. This compound is used in research to study eicosanoid biochemistry and the comparative roles of enzymatic versus non-enzymatic lipid mediators in vitro.
