Specificity
PHE5 is specific to chromogranin A, a highly acidic protein associated with the "dense core" granules of many cells of the neural and neuroendocrine system. It reacts with neuroendocrine cells of the gut, pancreatic islet and adrenal medulla, but does not react with any cells in the brain or with melanoma cells. The antibody stains carcinoid tumors, pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas. It is nonreactive with carcinomas, lymphomas and sarcomas
