Streptozotocin is a GLUT2-transported antibiotic that selectively induces pancreatic β-cell apoptosis via DNA alkylation. It is extensively used to generate experimental models of diabetes in vivo and to study β-cell toxicity in vitro. Due to its instability, fresh preparation in solution is required.
