CD94 protein is a key immune receptor for self-non-self discrimination. It forms a complex with KLRC1 or KLRC2 on lymphocyte subsets and recognizes HLA-E loaded with self-peptides. It allows cytotoxic cells to monitor MHC class I expression and promote self-tolerance.
